In 2024, according to the decree of President Sadyr Japarov, the national award "Meikin" was established with a total prize fund of 10 million soms. Today, on March 6, a meeting was held in Bishkek with participants from the media community, led by Daiyrbek Orunbekov, head of the information policy service of the presidential administration, to discuss preparations for the second competition.
Orunbekov noted that various ideas were proposed at the meeting to improve the format of the competition. In 2024, 10 main nominations were defined, but new realities require an expansion of the themes.
“Today we heard many proposals. There is a need to include new relevant topics in the list of nominations. Recommendations were also made to improve the evaluation criteria and substantively supplement the requirements for the works,” he added.
Daiyrbek Orunbekov also emphasized that a working group will be created soon to develop final decisions regarding the format and timing of the competition. Currently, the collection and analysis of new ideas and proposals is underway.
The main goal of the "Meikin" award is to stimulate creative achievements in journalism, enhance the prestige of the profession, and activate the work of media professionals.
It is worth noting that in 2024, about 250 works were submitted for the competition, from which 10 winners were selected and awarded cash prizes totaling 10 million soms.
