In the Kyrgyz Republic, the implementation of a program aimed at increasing electricity generation continues, which includes the modernization of outdated hydro units. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of the country.

In particular, the Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station is under special attention, where preparations are currently underway for the implementation of new equipment. At the moment, 47.3% of the total required set for hydro unit No. 2 has been received at the station's warehouse, with many systems already fully equipped.

Dismantling and preparatory work at the station are actively ongoing. For hydro unit No. 2, the disassembly of the turbine runner chamber is being carried out, while specialists are dismantling the turbine shaft and disassembling auxiliary systems and conductors with a voltage of 10.5 kV on unit No. 1. The removed equipment is carefully transported to warehouses.

More than 80 specialists have been involved in the successful implementation of the project, working on the modernization of the hydro units.

Work at the Uch-Kurgan HPP started in 2024, following the successful upgrade of hydro units No. 3 and No. 4.

In 2026, reconstruction will be simultaneously carried out on units No. 1 and No. 2, with planned completion by the end of the current year.

"It is expected that after the modernization is completed, the capacity of the station will increase from 198 MW to 216 MW, and the service life of the main equipment will be extended by decades, significantly improving the reliability and efficiency of the station's operation," the ministry added.
