"Bavaria" and "Atletico" deliver routs in the Round of 16 of the Champions League

During the second leg of the first matches of the UEFA Champions League playoffs for the 2025/26 season, viewers witnessed astonishing results and notable scoring. The star of the matchday was "Bavaria," which traveled to Bergamo to face "Atalanta." The German club effectively decided the fate of its advancement to the next stage, winning by a five-goal margin — 6:1. Michael Olise scored a brace, while Josip Stanisic, Serge Gnabry, Nicolas Jackson, and Jamal Musiala each added one goal. The Italian team managed to respond with a single goal from Mario Pasalic, leaving them with only ghostly chances of success in the return match.

Equally thrilling was the clash in Madrid, where "Atletico" confidently defeated "Tottenham" at home — 5:2. The Madrid side, under the guidance of Diego Simeone, displayed excellent attacking play, thanks to a brace from Julian Alvarez and goals from Marcos Llorente, Antoine Griezmann, and Robin Le Norman, creating a comfortable cushion before their trip to London. For the "Spurs," Pedro Porro and Dominic Solanke found the net, but it was not enough to stop the "mattress makers'" onslaught.

Meanwhile, in England, "Newcastle United" was close to a sensation, leading against "Barcelona" thanks to a goal from Harvey Barnes. The hosts confidently held their advantage until the final minutes; however, in stoppage time, the Catalans managed to save themselves — young Lamine Yamal coolly converted a penalty, setting the final score at 1:1. The most unexpected outcome occurred in Istanbul, where "Galatasaray" defeated "Liverpool" with a narrow score of 1:0, thanks to a goal from Mario Lemina, assisted by Victor Osimhen. The final matches of the Round of 16 of the Champions League, determining the list of quarter-finalists, will take place next week.
