During the plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 4, 2026, a draft law concerning "Geodesy, Cartography, and Spatial Data" was reviewed and adopted in the first reading.

This information was presented by Jakshylyk Toktosunov, Deputy Director of the State Agency for Land Resources, Cadastre, Geodesy, and Cartography, who emphasized that this draft law has been developed to improve the legislative framework for geodetic and cartographic activities. This aligns with the Program for the Creation and Development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure.

In the new version of the law, it is proposed to replace outdated provisions, clarify key terms such as "spatial data," "geodetic basis," and "navigation systems." Requirements for the creation, updating, and use of geodetic and cartographic materials are also established. Furthermore, the draft law regulates the operation of GLONASS/GPS systems and other similar systems, as well as defines the procedure for accessing state geodetic data.

The main goal of the draft law is to digitize geodesy and cartography, create a unified spatial data repository, simplify procedures for government agencies and businesses, and align legislation with international standards, including the requirements of the EAEU and the UN regarding spatial data infrastructure.
