On January 21, 2026, as a result of a joint operation by the State National Security Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic (GKNB KR) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic (SVR MVD KR), a district inspector of the Osh City Police Department, Lieutenant of Police U.O.Sh., was detained while receiving money.
According to the GKNB, the detainee, abusing his official position, systematically threatened foreign citizens working in Osh, demanding money for so-called "protection." He knew that they lacked the necessary work permits and received monthly amounts ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 soms from them. In case of refusal, he threatened fines and deportation.
U.O.Sh. was detained in accordance with Articles 96 and 97 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and placed in the temporary detention facility of the GKNB KR.
Currently, the GKNB KR is conducting an investigation to identify other possible participants in this crime.
