- The forecast published on February 20 by the U.S. Energy Information Administration indicates that more than half of the new electricity generation capacity in the U.S. in 2026 will come from solar energy.

According to the plans, 86 gigawatts of new capacity will be added in the country in 2026, of which 43.4 GW, or 51%, will be provided by solar energy.

“We believe that 2026 will be another key milestone in the development of solar energy, comparable to the record increases in solar capacity in 2024 (30.8 GW) and in 2025 (27.2 GW). If the project is realized, we expect that 43.4 GW of new solar capacity will be added in 2026, which is 60% higher than the increase compared to the previous year,” the administration reported.

The majority of the new solar capacity will be concentrated in four states: Texas, where 40% of the total is expected, as well as Arizona (6%), California (6%), and Michigan (5%).

The largest project in the field of solar photovoltaic energy will be the Tehuacana Creek 1 Solar and BESS, which will add 837 megawatts in Texas and is scheduled to launch in 2026. The project also includes 418 MW of energy storage system capacity.
