Kazakhstan Plans to Increase Electricity Generation from Renewable Energy Sources to Nearly 9 Billion kWh by 2026

- Kazakhstan expects to increase electricity generation from renewable sources to 8.8 billion kWh by 2026, as reported by the Ministry of Energy.

As of the end of 2025, actual production amounted to 8.6 billion kWh, which is 19.4% higher than the initial forecasts. The share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the country's overall energy balance reached 7%.

Currently, there are 162 power plants operating in Kazakhstan that utilize RES, with a total capacity of 3.5 GW. This figure includes wind and solar power plants, small hydropower plants, and biogas installations.

The Ministry plans to implement 10 new projects in 2026, with a total capacity of 245 MW. These plans include 5 solar and 4 wind power plants, as well as one hydropower plant.

Note:

The volume of 8.8 billion kWh can cover almost half (46%) of Kyrgyzstan's annual electricity consumption.
