At a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on agricultural policy, water resources, ecology, and environmental protection, it became known that in 2026, access to drinking water is planned to be provided for 773 villages in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by Zhanibek Kerimaliev, the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Food Processing Industry.

Kerimaliev noted that work on the creation of a new water supply system has already been completed in the village of Toru-Aygyr.

“Currently, construction work is ongoing in 120 villages. Project documentation is being developed for 229 villages, tenders have already been announced for 27 of them, and a feasibility study is being prepared for 177 villages. By the end of the year, construction work is planned to be completed in 70 villages and 3 cities, which will provide clean water to 200,000 people,” he added.

Since 2021, more than 560 million dollars have been invested in providing the population with drinking water, of which over 55 million came from the state budget.

“Thanks to these investments, from 2020 to 2025, work has been carried out to provide drinking water to the population in 25 cities and 601 villages. Water supply systems have been put into operation in 194 villages,” the official clarified.

Last year, 40 villages, or 75,000 people, gained access to clean water thanks to the budget, through the Department of Drinking Water Supply and Wastewater at the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture. Work in this direction continues with the support of donors,” concluded Zhanibek Kerimaliev.
