In the Talas region, one family has preserved a prayer rug [“jainamaz”] that was used by their ancestor over a hundred years ago. This was reported by ecologist and local historian Gamal Soronkulov.

According to him, during the month of Orozo, there is a revival of the tradition of holding ooz achar — the breaking of the fast. “Recently, I visited Ilyas Zharmanbetov from the Bakai-Ata district. After the fast was broken, we held a collective evening prayer, and among the modern rugs, I noticed one old, but in excellent condition, felt rug,” he noted.

After the prayer, Ilyas shared the story of this rug. It turned out that it has existed for over a hundred years and has been passed down from generation to generation, serving as a spiritual support for many. The first owner of the rug was the hunter Zharmanbet, an outstanding representative of the Keldichangyl clan. Jumashaly uulu Zharmanbet, born in 1909, became famous as a well-known hunter who provided food for his people.

However, when his popularity peaked, he was accused of being involved in the basmachi movement and was exiled, never to return. Despite this, his descendants continue to pray on his rug, dedicating Quran readings and prayers for the soul of their ancestor. They shared that Zharmanbet used this rug since childhood, and his descendants cherish it as a family heirloom,” added Gamal Soronkulov.
