Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina wins the Australian Open, defeating the world number one
At the 2026 Australian Open, Kazakhstan tennis player Elena Rybakina claimed victory by defeating the world number one, Aryna Sabalenka, in the final match.

The final, held on the courts of the Grand Slam tournament, ended with a score of 6:4, 4:6, 6:4 in favor of Rybakina. In the third set, she found herself in a difficult situation, trailing 0:3, but managed to turn the game around.

The match lasted 2 hours and 18 minutes. For her victory, Rybakina received a cash prize of approximately $2.88 million, while Sabalenka, who finished in second place, earned $1.149 million.

For the 26-year-old Rybakina, this triumph marked her second Grand Slam title. Previously, in 2022, she had already won the title at Wimbledon, and now she has won the Australian Open for the first time in her career. The tennis player also has 12 WTA titles in singles.
