According to information provided by the Khubsugul Emergency Management Office, a tragic event occurred on Lake Khubsugul on the evening of February 18, 2026. A car fell into a crack in the ice, resulting in the deaths of two people, while five managed to escape.
Authorities reported that a UAZ-452 minibus, driven by O.B., was traveling from the Khangh sum to the Renchinlkhumbe sum with seven passengers on board when it encountered a crack in the ice in the Khachim area of the Dalai-Zakh terrain and fell into the water.
The road incident occurred approximately 170 km north of the center of the Renchinlkhumbe sum, 70 km from the village of Khatgal, and 62 km east of Renchinlkhumbe itself. Emergency services received information about the incident at 20:16.
Unfortunately, as a result of the incident, one adult and one child died in the vehicle, while five passengers were able to survive.
Authorities strongly urged citizens to avoid traveling on the icy surfaces of lakes to not risk their lives and safety. They emphasized that cracks in the ice can appear suddenly and pose a serious danger. Residents and travelers are advised to follow the guidance of professionals and meteorologists to avoid dangerous situations.
