“A group of Mongolian soldiers participating in the UN peacekeeping mission UNMISS is honorably fulfilling its duties to protect the civilian population in the Abyei region, Republic of South Sudan,” reports MiddleAsianNews.

Since February 14, 2026, due to the situation in the region, more than 1000 citizens have arrived at the base seeking protection, and on February 27, over 400 citizens (mostly elderly people and children). Mongolian soldiers are providing protection for a total of more than 1400 civilians.

In the process of protecting the civilian population, the military established a medical point and a tent for first aid, where emergency medical assistance was provided to the injured, and those in need were isolated.

Among the local residents seeking protection in the camp was a pregnant woman ready to give birth. The camp doctor, Lieutenant Colonel Tserenlkham Tserendorj, and nurse, Junior Sergeant Uuganbayar Dashdorj, demonstrated high professionalism and successfully assisted the woman in giving birth.

These actions show that Mongolian soldiers responsibly and professionally ensure the safety of the civilian population and provide humanitarian assistance as part of their peacekeeping mission.

Since their arrival in South Sudan in September 2025, the 15th rotation of the Armed Forces of Mongolia, consisting of more than 800 servicemen, has been actively participating in the UNMISS mission.

As of March 1, 2026, the United Nations expresses its concern over the resurgence of violence in the Abyei area and calls for stabilization of the situation.
