- During the plenary session of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 11, 2026, deputy Aysarkan Abdibaeva raised the question of what steps the Ministry of Agriculture is taking to provide farmers with irrigation water in conditions of water scarcity.

In response to this question, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Bakyt Torobaev noted that the ministry is closely monitoring the current situation and, based on analysis, is establishing consumption limits for irrigation water for each region.

According to him, the ministry plans to implement a drip irrigation system on 200,000 hectares of land over the next five years.

“As long as we do not transition to drip irrigation, the problem of providing irrigation water will persist. It is necessary to introduce modern irrigation methods,” he emphasized.

The deputy also added that in 2025, farmers in Akys and Kerben faced a shortage of irrigation water, which negatively affected their harvest.

She suggested considering the issue of holding officials accountable for the losses incurred by farmers.

At that time, information from the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic was being discussed regarding preparations for spring fieldwork in 2026.
