According to Almaty.tv, currently, 50 cubic meters of water per second are flowing through the Akklak hydro junction. It is expected that by the end of the year, the strengthening of the dam will be completed, and a new phase of the project to restore the Northern Aral Sea will begin. This gives local residents hope for an improvement in the situation.
“The salinity of the water has significantly increased. Previously, since the 24th, it was at a low level. Now the fish have a chance of survival. I hope that the inflow of water will continue,” shared his opinion Azimbay Zholmyrzaev, a resident of the village of Karateren.
“About 200 families live in the village of Bogen, and almost every family has a fisherman. The standard of living of the local residents depends on the sea, and everyone is hopefully waiting for its further filling,” noted Torekhan Dilzhanov, a resident of the village of Bogen.
Every year, up to 8,000 tons of fish are caught in the Small Aral Sea. Experts believe that this success has been made possible due to years of efforts to protect the sea. Since 2022, reconstruction work on the Kokaral dam has been underway, which will ensure a stable supply of water to the sea and develop economic and social initiatives.
“The agreement signed by the ministers of water resources of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan played an important role. At the meeting of the presidents of Central Asia, it was decided to evenly distribute the volume of incoming water among the states. At the moment, we are fully utilizing our limit,” said Zhorabek Nurymbetov, head of the production site “Kyzylorda Sushar.”
