How Many Children Attended Kindergartens in the Regions of Kyrgyzstan: Data for 8 Years

In Kyrgyzstan, there is a steady increase in the number of children attending preschool institutions. This is evidenced by data provided by the National Statistical Committee of the country.

As of the end of 2024, there are 257,378 children registered in kindergartens and similar organizations. For comparison, in 2023, this figure was 233,946, in 2022 — 220,012, in 2021 — 199,813, in 2020 — 196,123, in 2019 — 207,884, in 2018 — 197,152, and in 2017 — 187,078.

Among the total number of students, 126,387 are girls, while in 2023 their number was 115,492, in 2022 — 108,486, in 2021 — 98,098, in 2020 — 96,168, in 2019 — 102,126, in 2018 — 96,323, and in 2017 — 90,954. The number of boys in 2024 reached 130,991, which also significantly increased compared to 2023, when there were 118,454. In previous years, the figures were: 111,526 in 2022, 101,517 in 2021, 99,955 in 2020, 105,758 in 2019, 100,829 in 2018, and 96,124 in 2017. Most of the children attending preschool institutions live in cities — 115,265, while 142,113 children are in rural areas.

Regions

The highest number of children in preschool organizations is registered in Bishkek, where their number is 41,584. This is significantly higher compared to 2023, when the figure was 34,990.

In the Osh region, there are currently 51,625 children registered in kindergartens, which is also higher than in 2023 (46,856). Of these, 25,523 are girls and 26,102 are boys. In urban settlements of the region, 2,792 children are registered, while in rural areas — 48,833, indicating a greater number of children in kindergartens specifically in rural areas.

In the Jalal-Abad region, the number of children in preschool institutions reached 46,316, compared to 41,698 in 2023. Here, there are 17,458 children in cities and 28,858 in rural areas.

The number of children in preschool organizations in the Chui region at the end of 2024 was 28,048, while in 2023 there were 30,919. In cities, 8,613 children are registered, while in rural areas — 19,435.

The Batken region shows an increase in the number of children in preschool institutions to 24,022, compared to 22,099 in 2023. In cities, 8,915 children are registered, while in rural areas — 15,107.

The Issyk-Kul region showed growth to 19,693 children, compared to 18,103 in 2023, including 8,737 in cities and 10,956 in rural areas.

In the Naryn region, the number of children in preschool organizations increased to 13,815, compared to 12,380 in 2023. In cities, their number is 2,999, while in rural areas — 10,816.

In the Talas region, as of the end of 2024, there are 10,482 children registered in preschool institutions, while in 2023 there were 9,407. Of these, 2,374 live in cities, and 8,108 — in rural areas.

In the city of Osh, there are 21,793 children in preschool institutions, which is also a significant increase compared to 17,494 in 2023. Among them, 10,837 are girls and 10,956 are boys.
