In Kyrgyzstan, there are about 60 radioactive tailings storage facilities left over from the Soviet era. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Azamat Mambetov at a press conference dedicated to plans for disaster prevention until 2026.

According to Mambetov, the reclamation work on these tailings storage facilities is being carried out with the help of international partners, including the Russian state corporation "Rosatom".

In the village of Min-Kush, reclamation work has already been completed. For projects in Min-Kush and Shekaftare, 28 million dollars were allocated from donors, while for Mailuu-Suu — 21 million dollars.

The goal is to ensure that by 2030 all tailings storage facilities are brought to a safe condition, which will eliminate the possibility of river pollution.

In addition, Mambetov emphasized the social support for workers. He reminded about the salary increases for divers, employees of the Hydrometeorological Service, foresters, and workers of the State Material Reserves Fund, which was initiated by the president.

"The military received bonuses last year. For example, those with ranks higher than sergeant now earn from 50,000 soms and above. Divers, who previously earned 20-30 thousand, with the new bonus of 20 thousand soms will earn up to 50-60 thousand soms," noted Azamat Mambetov.

Work is also ongoing to clean the lakes, especially Issyk-Kul. In 2025, about 200 kilometers of fishing nets were removed from the water bodies. Efforts to improve ecological and technological safety will continue.
