South Korean director Park Chan-wook will head the jury of the 79th Cannes International Film Festival, making him the first representative from his country to hold this position.

The festival organizers noted that Park Chan-wook's appointment symbolizes Cannes' significant commitment to Korean cinema. "Korea is a powerful film industry that unveils new artistic treasures every year. The country has demonstrated its ability to create large-scale contemporary works that attract millions of viewers," their statement emphasizes.

Park Chan-wook's film "Oldboy" won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Festival in 2004, and his other works, such as "Thirst," "The Handmaiden," and "Decision to Leave," have also received awards at this prestigious event.

The Cannes Festival will take place from May 12 to May 23, 2026.
