Last weekend, two silver coins from the 19th century, each with a denomination of one ruble, were sold at a flea market in the Jayil district.

Both coins were priced at 8,000 soms. They were purchased by antique enthusiasts.

Historian and local expert Maxim Podgorny spoke about the historical value and cost of these coins.

According to him, these are silver rubles from 1877 — the era of Russian Emperor Alexander II. The price for genuine specimens among collectors in Kyrgyzstan can reach 7,000 to 10,000 soms, depending on the condition of the coins.

“These silver rubles arrived in Kyrgyzstan with the first Russian settlers after 1860. The coins are made of 868 silver. Each weighs 20 grams, and the diameter is 35.5 mm,” said M. Podgorny.
