The deputy requests permission to import seedlings stuck at the border due to the import ban

Logistics issues arose due to the situation in Iran, which caused delays in the delivery of seedlings until March 1

At a meeting of the committee on agrarian policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection, Deputy Gulsharkan Kultaeva reported that she has been approached by farmers and entrepreneurs.

She noted that they brought seedlings from other countries but have been unable to import them into Kyrgyzstan for a week. Since March 1, an import ban on such seedlings has been imposed for six months.

During the discussion, the deputy asked the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Mirbek Duyshiev, what entrepreneurs should do—dispose of the seedlings or is there a possibility to send them to other countries.

Mirbek Duyshiev replied that entrepreneurs were notified in advance about the import ban when the relevant resolution was developed. However, according to him, due to the situation in Iran, there have been logistical difficulties, which led to changes in routes and delays in the delivery of the cargo until March 1.

“We sent a letter to the customs authorities on this issue. We are currently considering the possibility of revising the provisions of the resolution and are carrying out the necessary measures,” the official added.

Gulsharkan Kultaeva also emphasized that these are high-quality fruit tree seedlings known in the international market and called for a positive resolution to this problem.
