In an interview with the Kabar agency, Mayor Aibek Junushaliev shared his opinion on the Old Bishkek project, which he considers unique for the capital.

According to the mayor, this project represents a new experience for Bishkek, as the underground area was leased for the first time. "We put it up for auction, and the price reached 7 million soms per year. The total cost of the project is expected to be around 2 billion soms. Implementing such projects is quite a challenging task, but I hope we will manage within the next three months," Junushaliev noted.

Additionally, the mayor responded to criticism from residents who questioned why the city hall did not react to the construction of a third floor on the building and the dismantling of the fountain near TSUM.

"These two structures are located on private land. The area with the fountain belongs to TSUM, while the building belongs to GUM. Therefore, we did not have the opportunity to intervene in the construction works. However, we also had questions, and the designers provided us with their explanations. Nevertheless, being non-builders, we could not pay due attention to this. After public criticism, we decided to compare the old sketches with the current construction works," the mayor added.

"At the moment, we are working on bringing everything in line with the approved project, with special attention being paid to the underground passage," Junushaliev concluded.
