In Kyrgyzstan, there is a growing interest in women's entrepreneurship in the field of information technology. Interestingly, many businesswomen start their journey without formal education in this area. Often, these are mothers on maternity leave who decide to launch their own startups. One such woman is Nelly Nosalik, who demonstrates that digitalization in the country is gaining momentum, and our women are confidently keeping pace with modern requirements.
Nelly Nosalik, a well-known targeting specialist, shared her opinion with vb.kg that many women in the IT field strive not only for financial independence but also for a sense of their own significance. She believes that advertising on social media is one of the most promising business directions. At the same time, Nelly never thought she would become a targeting specialist.
Nelly, what made you choose this profession? What attracted you?
- This happened almost five years ago. Before that, I didn't even know that there was such a specialty as targeted advertising. At the time I started to take an interest in this field, I had just given birth to my daughter. Targeting became the perfect option for me: I could work and raise my child at the same time. This job attracted me with the possibility of remote work — you only need a laptop, internet, and knowledge. While in Bishkek, I place ads for clients from different corners of the world, including the USA, UAE, and even Bali.
Do you regret changing professions? What did you do before?
- Previously, I worked as an English language translator and as an assistant to the CEO in a South Korean construction company. The job was interesting, but after giving birth to my daughter, I felt the need to be more active. So, I decided to open a mini-store for children's clothing. In the process, I faced the problem of finding clients and learned about targeted advertising. This activity became a hobby for me, and I thought I would return to my previous job. But after mastering targeting, I realized that I didn't want to go back — it inspires me!
To be successful in this field, I had to learn a lot of new things, including the basics of marketing and targeted advertising. I work with Facebook and Instagram, and I can confidently say that over the past four years, I have learned a lot, mainly thanks to practical experience. My work is related to advertising on these social networks, and I believe this is the direction where I can achieve results.
Why did you choose Facebook and Instagram for your work?
- These platforms seem to me the most promising and modern. Of course, I can work with other networks, such as Google or VKontakte, but I prefer to focus on Facebook and Instagram to achieve better results. In our field, there are constant changes, and to stay updated on new developments, it's important to work on specific platforms. If you spread yourself too thin across many, it will be difficult to stay on trend and be a professional.
As for the popularity of advertising on these platforms, advertising is in demand overall. People spend a lot of time on social media, and that's where they can see your offer or sign up for a course.
Who needs targeted advertising and what advantages does it provide?
- Targeted advertising is necessary for everyone who has a business and wants to increase their client base or raise brand awareness. There are many companies and experts now wishing to promote their services, and I help them with this through targeted advertising. Therefore, it is important to have knowledge in marketing for effective ad campaign setup.
I work with various projects, including education abroad, clinics, and online stores. For example, I help a company that offers services for admission to foreign universities. I also have clients in the beauty and clothing sectors who need advertising to attract customers.
The advantage of targeted advertising is that it can be tailored to a specific target audience, taking into account gender, age, interests, and other parameters. This allows advertising to be shown only to those who are genuinely interested in the product or service.
Do you have clients abroad? What kind of advertising do they order?
- Mostly, their advertising is not aimed at our consumers. I work in their market, for example, with a cleaning company in the USA that provides cleaning services. I set up advertising for a specific city, and clients receive inquiries directly from there. I also have a client — a large flower shop in New York, and I help him advertise only in that region. Advertising starts working immediately after launch, and inquiries from clients come in almost right away.
If a foreign businessman wants to enter our market, I can adapt the advertising for our consumers, setting it up according to the client's wishes.
Do you conduct training courses on targeted advertising? What is their uniqueness?
- I did not conduct courses for two years due to project workload, but I recently resumed teaching. My course is distinguished by its practical focus, as it is quite difficult to master targeted advertising without practical skills. It is important to stay updated on all changes and convey relevant information to students. I strive not only to teach but also to help them achieve results so they can see how targeted advertising can help people.
What qualities are important for a successful targeting specialist?
- First of all, it is discipline and responsibility. Entrepreneurs often complain about a lack of communication with their targeting specialist or about untimely task completion. It is important to meet deadlines and maintain constant contact with the client to build trusting relationships. In our profession, we must focus on the value of advertising and provide recommendations for promoting goods and services.
Our main task is to ensure results. Clients invest money in advertising, and the more inquiries and clients they receive, the more successful their business.
How do clients find you?
- I work as a targeting specialist, and clients contact me via WhatsApp, Instagram, but word of mouth works best. Initially, it was difficult to find clients, but now they find me themselves. Recommendations from colleagues and acquaintances are very important to me. I work with many clients on a long-term basis, and I value such relationships greatly.
How do you see the future of targeted advertising? What trends are expected?
- I am confident that my profession will be in demand for a long time, and it is important to keep an eye on new trends. Changes and developments in targeted advertising are inevitable.
