According to the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Janibek Kerimaliev, Kyrgyzstan will face a shortage of water resources in 2026. This statement was made during a radio broadcast.
Kerimaliev noted that the ministry received instructions to conduct autumn sowing on an area of 250,000 hectares. “Previously, we were only processing 100-150 thousand hectares; such volumes did not exist,” he emphasized.
Despite the dry conditions, autumn sowing this year has been completed at 62%. The Deputy Minister pointed out that many farmers often left fields untreated after harvesting, which now requires attention.
“We are actively working on issues of autumn plowing, moisture accumulation, and soil preparation for the winter season, as climate change is leading to increased aridity,” he added.
This year, the agricultural sector has already faced a water shortage, but the situation has been stabilized. “We expect that the lack of water will persist in 2026,” said Kerimaliev.
In connection with this problem, active explanatory work is being carried out with farmers through district agricultural development offices. They are advised to implement autumn moisture-saving measures at local and regional levels.
“If farmers carry out such work in the autumn, they will be able to avoid worries in the spring. It can be confidently stated that those who accumulate moisture and carry out winter tillage will receive significantly better yields,” he noted.
In conclusion, Kerimaliev urged agrarians to continue autumn work, even if water is available. “This will bring positive results and success,” he summarized.
