- On the air of the radio, the president of the Association of Millers of Kyrgyzstan, Rustam Junushov, noted the necessity of modernizing the seed fund and applying modern agrotechnologies to increase the yield of grain crops.

He pointed out that many farmers continue to use low-reproduction seeds and ignore crop rotation, which leads to a decrease in yield by the third or fourth year.

Junushov stated: “In order to reduce the costs of growing grain and ensure satisfactory profits, it is necessary to unite efforts and expand the sown areas.”

Furthermore, the head of the Association reminded about the presidential decree adopted in 2024, aimed at supporting the cooperation of farming enterprises and processors.

He added that without the implementation of new technologies and training for farmers, it is difficult to restore an industry that has not received proper attention for 20–30 years. Junushov provided examples of successful no-till farming, where in some regions it was possible to achieve yields of over 40 quintals of wheat per hectare on rain-fed lands.

According to him, on average in 2024, farmers harvested only 15–20 quintals per hectare, which does not cover the costs of growing and harvesting.

“Our goal is to restore the raw material base of the grain industry by 2028–2030, working together with processors and producers,” Junushov concluded.

He also mentioned that currently, there are about 30 milling enterprises operating in the country.
