At the IV People's Kurultai, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, emphasized the importance of transitioning to a 12-year education system, stating that this decision will help meet international standards and allow graduates to enroll in foreign universities directly into the first year without additional courses.

The President shared his personal experience, noting that his son, upon graduating from school, faced the necessity of taking preparatory courses to enroll in the University of Warsaw when their family was in Europe in 2013. He mentioned that after returning to power, he instructed the Minister of Education to initiate the transition to 12-year education, but this work had not begun. Japarov added that he has repeatedly discussed this issue with various ministers and has now instructed the current minister to expedite the process.

During the discussion, one of the delegates pointed out the decreasing interest of schoolchildren in studying, mentioning that some classes have up to 50 children.

In response, the president stated that overcrowded classrooms are not a consequence of the transition to the new education system. He pointed to migration, both internal and external, as the main reason for this problem, especially in the capital and large cities, as well as parents' desire to enroll their children in schools with Russian as the language of instruction, which leads to some institutions having only 15-20 students in a class.

The president noted that parents, believing that the education level in some schools is low, continue to send their children to the same educational institutions. He reported on his efforts to create equal conditions for teachers in different schools, including salary increases, which should help attract teachers to vacant positions. According to him, a similar situation is observed in the medical field as well.
Sadyr Japarov also emphasized that the transition to 12-year education is a global standard, and certain difficulties will arise in the initial years.
“In the next two to three years, we will face challenges, but ultimately we will achieve world standards, and our graduates will be able to enroll in foreign universities directly into the first year,” the president added.

It should be noted that in the 2025-2026 academic year, according to the state program "Altyn Kazyq," a 12-year education system will be implemented in Kyrgyzstan. Under the reform, children will be required to attend school from the age of six, and vocational orientation and training in 11 professions will be provided in the senior classes.
