Maksat Korchiev, a 51-year-old resident of the village of Kerege-Tash in the Ak-Suu district, is currently a third-year student.
As a father of four children, three of whom continue their education at universities, Maksat believes that it is never too late to learn. “I am currently studying for a degree in ‘Acting’ in Karakol at the university named after I. Tumanov. Since there is no part-time department, I have to travel to classes from our village,” he shares.
Maksat has been actively engaged in creative activities for 20 years.
“I play the komuz, often act as a toastmaster at various celebrations, and actively participate in cultural events in my village. As the head of the village club, I strive to get an education to realize another facet of my talent and act in films. A creative person is always in search — that’s how success is achieved. I want to contribute to our culture from different angles,” he says.
In addition, Maksat is trying his hand in the tourism sector by opening an ethnic-style recreation area at the foot of the mountains.
“I started working as a guide five years ago, taking tourists from Karakol to Lake Ala-Köl. They are interested in the nature and culture of our country, noting its uniqueness. So I decided to create a recreation area for them, setting up yurts and offering national dishes. In spring, we keep mares, and both local and foreign guests come to us,” Maksat Myrza shares.
“200 grams of mare's milk cost 50 soms, and we recommend drinking it five times a day. For those interested, we offer three meals a day and accommodation for 1500 soms. Gradually, tourists are starting to recognize us and note the cleansing properties of our milk,” he adds.
Maksat not only demonstrates Kyrgyz hospitality but also introduces guests to the culture of the people, inviting manaschy and organizing master classes with local artisans.
“Today, we already host shyrine and small tois in nature, and we serve them. Our people are known for their hospitality: they always feed and engage in conversation with tourists. People appreciate our sincerity and authenticity,” concludes Maksat Korchiev.
