Alymbay and Meerim, residents of the city of Shopokov in the Chui region, are celebrating 25 years of married life, serving as an example for many. A Turmush correspondent spoke with Meerim Mamyrkanova about her life and family.
Meerim Bazarbaevna was born on June 18, 1983, in the village of Terek-Suu, located in the At-Bashinsky district of the Naryn region. Her husband, Alymbay Bogachievich Kurmanaliev, was born on December 17, 1979, in the same village. “We grew up in neighboring villages and were friends, but at that time, discussions about marriage were premature. My husband had three older brothers, and until they started their own families, he couldn’t get married. Time passed, and I was almost done with my studies. Then a guy from a neighboring village started showing interest in me, even threatening with ‘ala kachuu’. Hearing about this, my future husband came home and told his mother: ‘Tomorrow I’m getting married,’ and soon left.
The next morning, he took me away. It was sudden, as they say, ‘ala kachuu’. We quickly performed the religious ceremony of ‘nike’ and then held a small wedding in the village, receiving blessings from the elders. It has been 25 years since then. We have seven children: one daughter and six sons. Right now, I am preparing documents to receive the title of ‘Baatur Ene’ [heroine mother],” Meerim shared.
Moreover, Alymbay and Meerim were awarded the title of winners in the ‘Exemplary Family’ contest organized by the Shopokov city administration. “We didn’t participate for the prizes; it was important for us to demonstrate in practice that we are a model family. Unfortunately, it is often noticeable how young couples rush to get married and just as quickly get divorced. This is a very painful topic for me. My advice to young families is to learn to understand each other and overcome difficulties together. Everyone faces them. One should not expect that life will immediately become easy and joyful. Any trials must be overcome together, without leaving each other in difficult times.
I dream that my children receive a good education and grow up to be worthy people. In my free time, I love to read, listen to music, and sometimes sing along. When I spend time with my children, time flies by unnoticed. If my children are happy and smiling, and my husband is nearby supporting me, then what could be better?” she shared.
