The hero of our "Our People Abroad" section this time is Gulzhigit Piriev, a taxi driver in Moscow.

Gulzhigit was born in 1995 in the village of Belovodskoye, located in the Moscow district of the Chui region.

“I don't have a higher education. I finished 9 grades in school and studied for three years at the Kyrgyz-Russian Lyceum No. 28. I came to Moscow in 2016 thanks to a friend. This year marks 9 years since I’ve been living here. Sometimes I fly back to my homeland. Currently, I work as a taxi driver, renting a car, and I run a blog with my own audience,” Gulzhigit shared.

He noted that Moscow is a huge city with many opportunities, but added that “it’s not worth trusting love and the weather in Moscow.”

“On January 31, 2017, my relatives and I agreed to meet at Red Square, take a walk, and then celebrate the New Year together. However, when my younger brother and I arrived at the square, we were detained by the police and put on a bus full of migrants. We spent the whole night in a police station and, in the end, celebrated the New Year not with our family, but in those conditions. I will remember this incident forever,” he shared.

According to him, the main task of a taxi driver is the safe transportation of passengers. “If you make a mistake, life can change drastically,” Gulzhigit added.

“Interesting incidents happen in my work. About 1-2 years ago, I was involved in two accidents in one day. I was on a call to Zhukovsky Airport when it started snowing and the road became slippery. To avoid canceling the order, I began to hurry, and on the bypass road, the car skidded, leading to a collision with a vehicle in the opposite lane. We called the traffic police, and the inspectors arrived only after 4 hours, during which we obstructed the movement of other vehicles. When the crew finally arrived, they completed the necessary paperwork and allowed us to leave. I didn’t want to leave empty, so I took a new order from the airport. But when I stopped at a traffic light, I crossed the stop line and, trying to back up, only checked one mirror without looking at the other. As a result, I crashed into the car behind me. I had to call the traffic police again, and they arrived after 4 hours, with the same crew. They looked at me and laughed, saying, ‘What, did you decide to crash all the cars in this area in one day?!’ I explained that it was an accident. In the end, I went home without a new order, losing time and money. Besides the fines, I was summoned to court, where I paid 5000 rubles,” the Kyrgyzstani recounted.

According to Gulzhigit, there are many Kyrgyz people living in Moscow.

“However, I only communicate with certain people — relatives and close friends. Mostly, my life consists of work and home. I spend my free time with family and think about how to improve my life,” he added.

Gulzhigit grew up in a complete family, with three brothers and two sisters who live with their parents in Kyrgyzstan.

In the future, he plans to travel the world with his family.
