The village of Orgochor is located in the Jeti-Oguz district of the Issyk-Kul region.

During the Soviet Union, the village was well-known because the villagers raised Kyrgyz fine-wool sheep.

Initially, only a few families lived in the village. Barrack-type houses and a barn for storing animal feed were built.

In 1932, the Orgochor state farm was established. Subsequently, the government built sheepfolds and houses. A farm for raising sheep was also created, headed by V. Voronov.

In 1956, they began raising purebred sheep there. In 1960, based on the breeding farm, the Issyk-Kul Sheep Breeding Station was established. The enterprise provided the country with purebred small livestock. It was a leader in obtaining skins and breeding young stock and won the Red Banner of the USSR. Over 30 livestock breeders were awarded the Order of Lenin. Jamake Tynaev was the senior shepherd of the Orgochor experimental sheep breeding station. He was a Hero of Socialist Labor.

The village is home to representatives of various nationalities. After the administrative-territorial reform, the Orgochor rural district included the villages of Orgochor, Ak-Shyyrak, Ak-Dobo, and Svetlaya Polyana, designating Orgochor as the administrative center.

Today, about 6,000 people live there.

According to the elders, there are several legends about the name of the village.

According to one legend, the village was named after the brothers Orgo and Chor. Orgo means hill, and Chor means spring.

Another legend tells of a man who lived in the area for over 100 years. The locals were curious about the secret of his longevity. The elder told them that he always rode horseback and ate clarified butter.

Today, the local residents pay special attention to animal husbandry.

Some continue to raise purebred sheep.

The village is located 3 km from the district center — the village of Kyzyl-Suu.
