Users in Kyrgyzstan still access the social network via VPN, and the restrictions hinder the development of digital business
In Kyrgyzstan, there is a question about lifting the ban on TikTok, and this initiative was put forward by Marat Tagaev, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy.
During a meeting of the board held on February 19, he emphasized the need to reconsider the existing decision to prohibit the social network on the territory of the republic.
According to Tagaev, residents of Kyrgyzstan continue to use TikTok with the help of VPN, and the current ban negatively affects the development of digital entrepreneurship and the creative initiatives of the youth.
For reference, TikTok is a platform for creating and viewing short videos, owned by ByteDance. It became popular due to entertaining videos, trends, and various challenges. The ban on this social network was introduced in April 2024 at the request of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS).
