Mojahtaba Khamenei elected supreme leader of Iran

Mojahtaba Khamenei was elected to the position of supreme leader by the Assembly of Experts, consisting of 88 high-profile clergy responsible for selecting the new leader of the country.

As a mid-ranking cleric, Mojahtaba has close ties with the influential Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and has long been considered one of the candidates for succession after the death of his father, who was killed in recent attacks in Tehran on February 28.
