A powerful storm has hit the western coast of Turkey, causing serious problems in several provinces, local media reports.

Due to the adverse weather conditions, the authorities in Kocaeli decided to temporarily suspend classes in educational institutions.

The strong winds damaged not only the beaches but also cultural monuments in Istanbul, Balıkesir, and Manisa. Historical buildings and mosque minarets were affected, and in the Sarıyer district of Istanbul, gusty winds knocked down the ten-meter Kirecburnu lighthouse, which ended up completely underwater.
A difficult situation is also observed in the Burhaniye district of Balıkesir province. Due to the storm, the sea has overflowed its banks, flooding coastal roads and blocking traffic.

Additionally, ferry and maritime routes have been canceled due to the inclement weather.
