A winter storm in the United States, accompanied by snow and hail, has caused serious disruptions in transportation. Thousands of people found themselves at airports during the long weekend between Christmas and New Year, as reported by The Hill.

In New York, about 15 cm of snow fell, prompting city and New Jersey state authorities to declare a state of emergency, although by evening the storm began to weaken.

According to FlightAware, by Saturday evening, more than 9,000 domestic flights had been canceled or delayed, the majority of which were at New York airports.

On Friday, Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and LaGuardia Airport issued warnings about potential flight schedule disruptions via the social network X.

Additionally, authorities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania imposed restrictions on commercial vehicle traffic on several roads, including major interstate highways.

According to meteorologists' forecasts, the storm was moving from the northwest to the southeast. The eastern part of Long Island recorded the heaviest snowfall, with over 15 cm of snow, while in the Catskill Mountains, some areas saw up to 25 cm.

Despite the difficulties, some residents viewed the snowfall positively. "I think it was just wonderful," shared a New York resident.

A couple who traveled from West Virginia noted that the snow was a true Christmas gift for their third wedding anniversary.
