The Investigative Committee of Russia has announced the completion of the investigation into the disaster involving an Azerbaijan Airlines aircraft that occurred on the territory of Kazakhstan. This was reported by Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, citing information received from Azerbaijani media.

According to Bayramov, Baku received an official notification from Alexander Bastrykin, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, regarding the termination of the investigation. The minister noted that this decision raises "very serious questions" for the Azerbaijani side.

Earlier, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan presented updated data on the investigation of the aviation disaster that occurred in 2024. The interim report was published in honor of the anniversary of the tragedy and includes the results of several expert examinations. Preliminary conclusions of the commission indicate that the damage to the aircraft may have been caused by elements of an explosive device; however, its origin could not be established.

The aircraft, operating a flight from Baku to Grozny, crashed on December 25, 2024, near Aktau Airport. The aircraft was making an emergency landing there after unsuccessful attempts to land on the territory of Russia. As a result of the disaster, 38 people died, and 29 injured were hospitalized.

Among the injured were three citizens of Kyrgyzstan, who were transported back to their homeland on December 30, 2024, for continued treatment.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Azerbaijan Airlines received an insurance compensation of 1.003 billion rubles for the lost aircraft.

In October, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart, mentioned that one of the reasons for the tragedy was Ukrainian drones.
