Vladimir Zelensky expressed hope for the possibility of reaching a peace agreement during his upcoming meeting with the U.S. president this Sunday. He stated this in an interview with Axios.

The President of Ukraine emphasized that he is ready to put "Trump's plan" to a referendum if Russia agrees to a ceasefire for at least 60 days. He also noted that the proposed plan involves territorial concessions for Ukraine, which are set to be discussed in the U.S. on December 28.

Zelensky added that the U.S. is prepared to provide Ukraine with security guarantees for 15 years; however, he believes that this is not enough. Donald Trump is expected to announce more long-term guarantees on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Trump himself has stated his intention to have a conversation with Vladimir Putin in the near future.

"He noted that he plans to talk to Putin 'soon, even if he doesn't want to,'" reports Politico.

The American leader also emphasized that Zelensky's peace plan makes no sense without his approval.

In turn, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the Ukrainian president's plan significantly differs from what was discussed with the U.S.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated: "We saw that mentions of a 20-point plan appeared in Ukrainian public forums the day before. We are confident that this plan is radically different from the 27 points we have been working on in contacts with the American side since early December."

According to him, the situation is close to a possible resolution, but political will from the U.S. is necessary for the "final push."
