The President emphasized that the authorities have provided all the conditions for convenient voting, including the establishment of polling stations in shopping centers, the possibility of remote participation, and the opening of polling places abroad. However, despite these efforts, the expected increase in voter turnout did not occur.
Japarov also noted that there is a paradox: citizens actively criticize the activities of deputies but do not participate in elections themselves. In this regard, he proposed to consider the possibility of introducing mandatory voting and instructed the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh to develop an appropriate draft law. As possible measures, he mentioned responsibilities, fines, or restrictions similar to those in Singapore, up to a ban on participation in the next elections.
During the discussion at the kurultai, the president asked the delegates who among them participated in the parliamentary elections. Almost all raised their hands, to which Japarov expressed doubt about the truthfulness of their responses and promised to instruct the Central Election Commission to verify the information using electronic systems, with the results to be announced at the next kurultai.
