«We will ensure his election as the 48th president of the USA». The widow and supporters of Charlie Kirk backed JD Vance

At the event, Erika Kirk, speaking before more than 30,000 supporters, stated: “We will ensure that my husband’s friend, JD Vance, becomes the 48th president of the USA in the most convincing way.” America Fest, which was the first major event following the tragic death of Charlie Kirk, took place in Phoenix, Arizona. The event gathered 31,000 participants, although due to fire regulations, the number of spectators was limited; people began gathering at the Convention Center as early as three in the morning.

Among the main speakers at the festival were Erika Kirk, Vice President Vance, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Donald Trump Jr. Last year at AmFest, when a speech by President Trump himself was promised, there were 21,000 participants, highlighting the growing popularity of this event, notes Axios.

President Trump also addressed the attendees in a brief speech after his son Donald Trump Jr. called him from the event.

However, the main star of the event was JD Vance, who received active support from Charlie Kirk. In his speech at AmFest on Sunday, Vance attempted to unite Republicans and conservatives, and his address stood out among other speakers, many of whom were well-known figures from the conservative American media landscape who primarily criticized each other.

In particular, Ben Shapiro, a popular conservative podcaster, noted that the conservative movement is under threat and is being attacked by “charlatans” and “frauds.” In response, Steve Bannon, a former Trump administration official, compared Shapiro to a “cancerous tumor.” Vance, for his part, stated: “President Trump created the greatest political coalition without involving his supporters in endless purity tests. We have more important things to do than cancel each other out.”

Both Vance and other speakers tried to shift the focus to external opponents. “The real enemy? It’s not Steve Bannon, not Tucker Carlson, and not Ben Shapiro, but the radical left who killed Charlie and celebrate it every day,” said Trump Jr.

Throughout AmFest, there were internal disputes, which, according to Politico, highlight the intensification of contradictions within the political coalition formed around Trump, ahead of the upcoming midterm elections and the future presidential elections in 2028. There are disputes about who will succeed Trump and what direction the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement will take after his possible departure.

Many vice presidents of the USA have gone on to become presidential candidates and won elections. Vance has not yet made specific statements about his plans for the 2028 presidential election, but support from Turning Point supporters could be crucial for him.

Kirk’s movement is believed to have played a key role in mobilizing youth for the 2024 elections, registering tens of thousands of new voters in Arizona and ensuring Trump’s victory in this swing state.

Kirk supported Vance in his campaign for the Senate seat from Ohio and helped establish connections with Trump’s close circle, advocating for his nomination as vice president.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Turning Point is already beginning to build the infrastructure for a potential Vance presidential campaign in 2028. The movement plans to organize its representatives in all 99 counties of Iowa for active work in the presidential primaries. Iowa is a key state in the early stages of presidential candidate nominations, and Turning Point is preparing a grassroots support structure for Vance.

“Why worry? Let the Democrats fight among themselves in the primaries while we take advantage of the unique opportunity to have a candidate who clearly leads,” said Tyler Bowyer, one of the leaders of Turning Point, in a backstage conversation at AmFest, according to WSJ.

Trump also hinted that he sees Vance as a possible successor, mentioning Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with whom Vance has a good relationship. Rubio, in turn, stated that he does not intend to compete with Vance for the nomination.
