This is already the second attempt by the Bank of Russia to introduce a new thousand-ruble banknote. In 2023, a banknote featuring the Museum of the History of the Statehood of the Tatar People, located in the building of the former Palace Church, was released, which had its cross removed during the Soviet era.
The design of this banknote faced criticism from representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, who expressed the opinion that the banknote could have depicted the church with a cross.
