NATO fighters were activated to monitor the flight of Russian strategic bombers over the neutral waters of the Barents and Norwegian Seas.

According to information provided by the British publication Mirror, Alliance aircraft were called in after Russian Tu-95MS approached NATO airspace. This flight was perceived as a demonstration of potential pressure from Moscow, and the article mentions rumors of a possible threat to the northern territories of the United Kingdom.

It is reported that during their flight, the bombers were under the cover and escort of Su-33 fighters.

In response, on December 25, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Tu-95MS flight was planned, lasted about seven hours, and fully complied with international norms.

Furthermore, the ministry emphasized that long-range aviation crews regularly conduct flights over the neutral waters of the Arctic, North Atlantic, Pacific Ocean, as well as over the Baltic and Black Seas.
