The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has completed the investigation into the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines aircraft, which met with disaster in Kazakhstan after sustaining damage in Russian airspace. This was reported by Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

According to him, the official document regarding the termination of the investigation was communicated by the chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin. Bayramov noted that such an initiative raises "very serious questions" for the Azerbaijani side.

The Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan previously published an interim report on the investigation of the disaster that occurred in 2024, on the anniversary of the tragedy, which includes the results of several expert examinations.

According to data from the Kazakh authorities, preliminary conclusions of the commission indicate that the damage to the aircraft may have been caused by striking elements of an explosive device, although it has not been possible to establish their origin.

Recall that on December 25, 2024, an Azerbaijan Airlines aircraft operating a flight from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau Airport after unsuccessful landing attempts in Russia. As a result of the crash, 38 people died, and 29 injured were hospitalized.

Among the injured were three citizens of Kyrgyzstan, who were transported back to their homeland on December 30 for continued treatment.

According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the airline AZAL received an insurance compensation of 1.003 billion rubles for the lost aircraft.

As Vladimir Putin stated during a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart in October, one of the reasons for the tragedy was Ukrainian drones.
