Starting from January 1, 2026, a new testing format for migrants related to the assessment of their knowledge of the Russian language will come into effect in Russia. The testing will be conducted on computers using remote technologies, as reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. According to representatives of the agency, all state institutions are required to conduct exams in Russian as a foreign language, as well as on the history of Russia and the fundamentals of the country's legislation exclusively in a format based on computer and remote technologies. Currently, a number of preparatory activities are underway aimed at implementing this initiative. The main goal of the changes is to increase the transparency of the examination process and reduce the influence of the human factor in assessing knowledge. It is also planned to regularly update the examination tasks once a month and to refrain from publishing the answers to them on the open network. At present, the exam can be taken at 203 locations across the country and abroad. Oversight of the examination process for foreign citizens will be carried out by Rosobrnadzor.
