The President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Mikhail Mamiashvili, shared his opinion on Malik Shavaev, who will now represent Kyrgyzstan in international competitions.

Recently, Shavaev, a graduate of the wrestling school in Kabardino-Balkaria, became the champion of Kyrgyzstan in the weight category up to 89 kg, which opened the way for him to participate in the Asian Championship.

“Shavaev has changed his sports citizenship and will compete for Kyrgyzstan. This is a normal practice, although he is not a leader in the national team,” Mamiashvili commented.

Currently, the 29-year-old wrestler has twice become the champion of Russia and once reached the finals of the national championship.

His last participation in the Russian national team took place at the BRICS Games last year, where Shavaev won a gold medal.

It should be noted that earlier another two-time champion of Russia, Shamil Mamedov (in the weight category up to 65 kg), also moved to the Bulgarian national team.
