Usyk has been assigned a mandatory fight by the WBC: The World Boxing Council has issued an ultimatum to the Ukrainian boxer

The WBC clarified that Usyk is entitled to one voluntary defense before the fight with Kabayel. Earlier, there was information in the press about a possible fight with Deontay Wilder, but Wilder agreed to meet with Derek Chisora. Tyson Fury is also a potential opponent for Usyk, but he is preparing for a fight with Arslanbek Makhmudov.

Alexander Usyk last entered the ring in July 2025 in London, where his opponent was Daniel Dubois. In that fight, Usyk won by knockout in the fifth round, restoring his status as the undisputed world champion in the heavyweight division. Usyk made his professional debut in November 2013 when he faced Mexican Felipe Romero and won that bout by technical knockout in the fifth round.
