Tyson Fury explained his defeats to Usyk as 'politics'

The British boxer and former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury spoke about significant fights in his career, mentioning his bouts with Deontay Wilder, Wladimir Klitschko, and Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury believes that in two fights against Usyk he could have won, although both bouts ended in favor of the Ukrainian boxer.

“Let’s see how my return goes. As they say, don’t count your chickens before they hatch. One fight at a time. I handle big punchers well, having fought the most powerful puncher in history three times. Both were undefeated. I defeated Wladimir Klitschko, who was ranked seventh. I beat Usyk twice, but in both cases, the victory slipped away from me. It’s politics,” Fury told SkySports.

Tyson Fury's last fight took place in December 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), where he lost to Oleksandr Usyk by unanimous decision. His record stands at 34 wins (24 of them by knockout), 2 losses, and 1 draw.

Tyson Fury was born on August 12, 1988, in Manchester, England.

Career

Fury made his professional debut under promoter Mick Hennessy. His first fight in the middleweight category against Bela Djenjese ended in victory, and just a month later he faced German boxer Marcel Zeller. Despite Zeller's considerable experience, he lasted only 3 rounds before succumbing.

Gradually, Fury moved up to heavyweight, and 2009 became a landmark year for him. During this period, he significantly strengthened his position, facing John McDermott twice, who was unable to take revenge and was knocked out in the second fight.

In 2011, Fury stepped into the ring against Derek Chisora, who was undefeated at the time. Many experts and fans considered him the favorite, but it soon became clear that Fury was a serious opponent. Chisora could not keep up with the lighter and more agile Tyson, and although his punches were powerful, Fury's speed and endurance decided the outcome of the fight by the 6th round.

After a few years, Derek attempted to take revenge, but Fury's experience gave him a clear advantage. The fight lasted 10 rounds, after which the referee stopped it and declared Tyson the winner.

However, the most memorable fight for Fury took place in 2015 when he faced Wladimir Klitschko, a holder of multiple titles. The fight was tense and spectacular, and Klitschko made a mistake in his strategy by trying to keep his distance. This allowed Fury to land unexpected punches, and ultimately he secured a confident victory after 12 rounds.

After this fight, Fury fell into depression and faced a doping scandal, which forced him to pause his career. He relinquished all titles, unable to defend them, keeping only the The Ring belt, but was unable to fight Oleksandr Povetkin and lost it.

As a result, the boxer began to abuse alcohol and drugs, leading to weight gain and deterioration of his condition. Tyson even contemplated suicide but realized that it would be an admission of weakness. He understood that the only way out was through sports and returned to training.

In 2018, Fury announced his return to professional boxing, planning a fight with Albanian Sefer Seferi. At that time, he weighed 125 kg, while his opponent weighed 95. Seferi lasted only four rounds before refusing to come out for the fifth.

Fury then won against Francesco Pianeta and faced Deontay Wilder. In this bout, Tyson knocked his opponent down twice, but the fight ended in a draw.

Equally thrilling was the encounter with Swede Otto Wallin, in which Fury sustained two cuts but continued fighting and ultimately won.

After that, Tyson faced Wilder again and, showcasing speed and agility, forced his opponent to surrender in the seventh round, winning the WBC title. In October 2022, he defeated Wilder again in the 11th round in a fight for the WBC and The Ring titles.

On May 18, 2024, during a fight with Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Fury fought for the title of undisputed heavyweight champion. This bout ended in a victory for Usyk by split decision, marking Tyson's first loss in his professional career.
