At the "Barcelona-Catalunya" racetrack, a shakedown of the new Audi car, which meets the Formula 1 2026 standards, took place. This event was an important milestone for the team, as Audi became the first to test its model on the track.
During the tests, which were limited by the FIA to 200 kilometers, both Audi drivers — Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto — each completed 100 kilometers. The car was presented in a black unpainted version, featuring only the four-ring logo on the rear wing.
The shakedown was a logical continuation of the successful first start of the R26 power unit, which took place on December 19, 2025. This launch confirmed the successful integration of the engine and chassis developed at Audi's centers in Neuburg (Germany), Hinwil (Switzerland), and Bicester (United Kingdom).
Jonathan Wheatley, the team principal, emphasized that this moment is critically important for Audi's Formula 1 program and expressed the team's readiness for the next stages of development ahead of the debut season.
It is worth noting that Audi will officially begin its participation in the World Championship in 2026, when the new technical regulations come into effect, focusing on increased electrical power and the use of environmentally friendly fuel.
