
All 16 teams that have advanced to the knockout stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are already known, despite some group stage matches still ongoing.
The first team to secure a spot in the Round of 16 was Egypt, which achieved victories over Zimbabwe and South Africa, as well as a draw with Angola. Nigeria, in turn, set a record by winning all three group stage matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda, scoring eight goals — the best result for the team at this stage of the tournament in its history.
Algeria also successfully advanced to the knockout stage, winning its first two matches, where Riyad Mahrez made a significant impact. South Africa, Morocco, and Mali also managed to reach the Round of 16, while Tunisia and Tanzania finished the group stage in high positions in Group C.
In other groups, the following teams advanced to the knockout stage:
Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin
Group E: Algeria, Sudan, Burkina Faso
Group F: Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Mozambique
After the completion of the group stage, eight teams exited the tournament: Uganda, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.
One match has already been confirmed for the Round of 16: Tanzania will face the tournament hosts, the Moroccan national team.
