The criminals took advantage of the Christmas holidays when most institutions are closed from the evening of December 24. According to police information, they drilled through a concrete wall and opened several thousand safes, stealing cash and jewelry.
The first information about the incident appeared on Monday, December 29, when the fire alarm went off, and a hole was discovered in the wall.
The next day, a large number of outraged customers gathered in front of the bank, demanding access to their safes. One depositor, speaking with the television channel Welt, stated that he could not sleep due to the lack of information about his savings, which he had kept in a safe for 25 years.
According to the police, on Saturday evening, witnesses noticed several men with large bags in the stairwell of the neighboring parking garage. Also, early on Monday morning, a black Audi RS6 with masked individuals drove out of the garage, and its license plates were registered to a car stolen in Hanover.
The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects remain at large.
