Unknown criminals robbed the Sparkasse bank located in Gelsenkirchen, in western Germany, stealing more than 34 million euros from the vault, as reported by Bild.

According to information being discussed in the country, the criminals drilled a large hole in the wall and entered directly into the vault. Once inside, they raided the safes, taking all the valuables they could find before fleeing the scene.

The publication emphasizes that the damage from the robbery is "dramatic." The bank's vault contains about 3,300 safes rented by 2,700 clients. Some of them used several safes, each insured for up to 10,300 euros.

Experts estimate potential insurance payouts, in case all the safes were robbed, could reach up to 33.9 million euros, according to Bild.

Since Monday, dissatisfied clients have been gathering at the bank branch — there are already more than 200 of them. People are demanding explanations about what happened and information regarding compensation. However, the bank's management has not yet made contact with the affected clients. As a result, some clients have started trying to enter the closed branch, and police are currently on-site to prevent escalation of the conflict.
