Lithuania has withdrawn from the Ottawa Convention on the prohibition of anti-personnel mines

Lithuania has completed its participation in the Ottawa Convention on the prohibition of anti-personnel mines. This decision became final six months after notifying the UN, as reported by the LRT portal.

According to the information provided, the deadline expired on December 27, which was set from the moment Vilnius notified the UN Secretary-General. This convention prohibits the use, production, and stockpiling of anti-personnel mines.

It was previously reported that Lithuania and Finland plan to establish their own production of anti-personnel mines in the coming years, both to meet domestic needs and for supplies to Ukraine. Additionally, Lithuanian authorities intend to invest about 800 million euros over the next decade in the development of anti-tank and anti-personnel mines.
