In Uzbekistan, plans are underway to tighten penalties for early and consanguineous marriages

The draft law, aimed at protecting the rights of women and children, is currently in the public discussion stage.

This document introduces a ban on marriages between cousins, second cousins, and third cousins, as well as between uncles, aunts, and their nieces and nephews. The only exceptions are cases where there is no actual blood relationship.

The draft also proposes a significant increase in fines for repeated marriages with individuals who have not reached marriageable age, up to 100 BRV (which is more than 41 million soms). Additionally, the duration of community service is suggested to be extended from one year to two, in order to reduce the number of early marriages in the country.
