The elder son of Zhibek Urustemova, Bekzhan Urustemov, met with representatives of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) on behalf of the chairman of this agency, Kamchybek Tashiev.
During the meeting, a decision was made to provide comprehensive support for Zhibek's children. Among the measures are assistance in obtaining housing, paying off the mortgage, employment for the elder son, and funding for the education of the younger children. This issue is under the close attention of the head of the GKNB.
Bekzhan had previously appealed to the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, and the chairman of the GKNB through a post on Instagram on December 26.
In his appeal, he stated that after the loss of their mother, the family found themselves without the main breadwinner, and mortgage payments were at risk. According to him, their mother, working as a teacher, had been solely supporting the family in recent years, including her unemployed husband.
“The apartment was purchased with a mortgage, and mom paid the loan every month. The remaining debt is about 2 million soms. I am a student and cannot pay off such an amount on my own. Our situation is extremely difficult, and we need help from the government,” he said.
Additionally, Bekzhan mentioned that he has younger brothers who are in school, and for their support, he is ready to leave university and start working.
Until recently, there had been no official response from the authorities to his appeal. Social media users suggested raising funds for the family. Meanwhile, the sister of the murder suspect stated that their parents are ready to pay off the mortgage debt and transfer the apartment to the children.
The tragedy occurred on December 23, when Zhibek's ex-husband, while intoxicated, shot her on her birthday. The couple has three children.
The suspect, a former police officer, retired in 2019 and worked as a coach in a gym. He had a gun permit, which he obtained after retiring.
Currently, a criminal case has been initiated regarding the murder, the suspect has been detained, and is being held in the temporary detention facility of the Bishkek City Police Department. The investigation is ongoing.
The head of the Bishkek City Police Department, Azamat Toktonaliev, stated that the cause of the murder was alcoholism. In his opinion, things could have turned out differently if it weren't for this factor and the victim's birthday. He added that the suspect came to his ex-wife with a cake and flowers, and she went with him willingly. It later turned out that the cake and flowers were given to her by students of the KAU.
Kamchybek Tashiev, the head of the GKNB, and ombudsman Jamila Jamambaeva emphasized that no circumstances can justify the brutal murder of a mother of three children.
On December 26, it became known that the case had been transferred to the GKNB. By the order of Kamchybek Tashiev, an investigative headquarters was established at the central office, and the suspect was transferred to the GKNB investigative isolation facility. It was also reported that the weapon used in the crime was illegal, and Zhibek had previously been under police protection, but despite this, she was killed by her ex-husband.
